The YHS is a health service for young people run by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde working in partnership with Culture and Sport Glasgow, Community Addictions Team and voluntary organisations.

Broken teeth, inflamed gums, and bad breath are a big turn off!

Things which can damage your teeth

	Swigging from glass bottles
	Swinging yoyos
	Pulling on toilet cord with teeth
	Biting on piercings in the tongue
	Gems jewellery to teeth

Gum and Other disease

	Inflamed gums may be caused by poor brushing of teeth, stress and heavy smoking
	Cold sores caused by herpes simplex virus, DON’T kiss anyone till it has gone away
	Ulcers, may be caused by stress, accidental damage to gum, lack of iron or vitamins
	Mouth cancer, very rare in young people, usually occurs in middle aged people due to heavy smoking and drinking in earlier years.

In 2000/2001, 64% of young people in Glasgow already had tooth decay.
