The
YHS is a health service for young people run by NHS Greater
Glasgow and Clyde working in partnership with Culture and
Sport Glasgow, Community Addictions Team and voluntary
organisations.
Contraception
Contraception used correctly allows you to plan whether or not to
become pregnant when you have sex.
Scotland has the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Europe. Maryhill,
Woodside and North Glasgow have a higher rate than any other
area of Glasgow. Roughly half of those who find themselves pregnant,
choose not to continue and opt for an abortion.
Contraception works by preventing the egg and the sperm from meeting.
The following methods can help to do this :
Condoms
The pill
The jag
An implant
A coil
Femidom
(female condom)
Emergency
contraception (morning after pill)
Different methods suit different people, You can come in and
see us here at the YHS and we can give you advice or supplies
for free.
Remember, the method only works if you take it properly and
the only one which helps prevent disease is the condom –
use one every time.
