The YHS is a health service for young people run by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde working in partnership with Culture and Sport Glasgow, Community Addictions Team and voluntary organisations.

Background Information

The YHS was initiated in 1999 as a multi-agency response to improve the
appropriateness and accessibility of health services for young people in the Maryhill/Woodside catchment area.

The project was developed and significantly influenced by the findings of the youth participation project and local health findings.

Local Health Priorities

Local statistics have highlighted that significant inequalities in health and opportunity exist in the area, for example, in comparison to Bearsden and Milngavie there was a tenfold difference in teenage pregnancy statistics. The area also suffers from high incidences of violence, homelessness, alcohol and drug abuse, poor school achievement and long-term unemployment.
